Having trouble seeing the Wi-Fi portal page?

Overview

When connecting to the Student Accommodation network, a Wi-Fi portal page (sometimes called a captive portal) will pop up to allow you to log in. If this page does not load automatically, your device will remain connected to the signal without internet access. This guide provides steps to manually trigger the login screen and restore your connection.

1. Refresh the Connection

  • Toggle Wi-Fi: Turn your device's Wi-Fi off, wait five seconds, and turn it back on.
  • Re-establish the Connection: Select the network in your settings and choose Forget this Network. Then, select the network name again to initiate a fresh connection attempt.

2. Manually Trigger the Portal Redirect

If the browser does not automatically redirect you to the login screen, you can prompt it by visiting a non-encrypted website.

  • Open a web browser (such as Chrome, Safari, or Edge).
  • In the address bar, type neverssl.com and press Enter.
  • This site is designed to allow network redirects, which should immediately call up the required login or terms-and-conditions page.

3. Disable Connection Interruption Tools

Security and privacy tools can occasionally prevent the network from displaying its authentication page.

  • Disable VPNs: Temporarily disconnect any active Virtual Private Networks (VPNs). These are designed to create secure tunnels that can bypass the local network's redirect page.
  • Use a Standard Browser Window: Avoid using Incognito or Private browsing modes, as these can restrict the cookies or scripts needed for the portal to function correctly.
  • Check DNS Settings: Ensure your device is set to "Configure DNS Automatically" rather than using a fixed custom DNS address.

4. Manually Add your Device to your Account

Some devices do not support Wi-Fi portal pages, and you will not be able to reach it. These devices need to be added to your account manually.
