Wireless Network Guide: Open vs. Open Secure

We provide two wireless networks for our residents. While both networks provide internet access, they differ significantly in how they protect your data over the wireless network.

Network NameBest For
Open SecureNewer devices (Smartphones, Windows 11, latest Macs)
OpenOlder devices & compatibility fallbacks

So Which Network Should I Choose?

1. Try "Open Secure" First (Recommended)

This network uses a technology called Enhanced Open (OWE) which improves data security.

-Why use it: It provides the most secure and reliable connection on our wireless network.

-Requirement: Your device must support the latest Wi-Fi encryption standards.

2. Use "Open" as a Fallback

This is a traditional open network which is usually more compatible with older devices.

-Why use it: If your device is older or simply refuses to connect to "Open Secure," this network ensures you can still get online.

Note: Both of our networks use modern network security protocols to ensure your data is secure. While we boast ourselves on implementing the latest and greatest security, we understand that not all devices will support this.

Important Compatibility Note

"Open Secure" requires modern hardware and software support. It is known to be incompatible with:

-MacBook M1 Chipset and below (including older macOS devices released during 2016-2021).

-Older Windows 10 laptops with legacy Wi-Fi cards.

-Older Android and iOS devices.

If you have one of these devices, you must use the "Open" network.
