Managing Your Devices: How to add your Device to your Account

Our student accommodation networks use your individual account to control how many devices you can use at once. While laptops and phones usually connect automatically after you log in, other hardware (like gaming consoles or smart TVs) may need to be added manually using their unique "MAC address."

1. How to Identify Your Devices

Every piece of hardware has a unique "fingerprint" called a MAC Address. It is a 12-digit string of numbers and letters (e.g., 00:1a:2b:3c:4d:5e).

  • Laptops/Phones: Usually found under Settings > About > Status or Hardware Properties.

  • Consoles: Usually found under Network Settings > Advanced Settings.

2. Adding a Device to Your Account

If your device does not have a web browser to access the login page, you must register it manually:

  1. Log in to your Wi‑Fi portal.
  2. Click on Devices.
  3. Click "Add this device" or enter the device MAC address, then click Add.
Note: Give the device a friendly name (e.g. "My Alexa" or "My Xbox").
  4. Disconnect the device from Wi‑Fi, then reconnect it to the network.
  5. The device should connect automatically within a few minutes.

3. Managing Your Device Limit

Your account has a set limit on how many devices can be active at once. If you reach this limit, new logins will fail.

  • To Remove a Device: Locate the device in your portal list and click the Trash/Delete icon.
