Changing the Network Adapter to 2.4GHz in Windows

Modern Wi-Fi typically broadcast on two frequency bands: 2.4GHz and 5GHz. We recommend setting your device to prefer 5GHz wherever possible. Each band offers distinct advantages depending on your environment and device capabilities.

2.4GHz Band

  • Provides wider coverage and better penetration through walls and obstacles
  • Compatible with a broad range of older devices
  • Household electronics (e.g. microwaves, baby monitors) more frequently cause Wi-Fi interference
  • Offers slower speeds compared to 5GHz

5GHz Band

  • Delivers faster speeds, ideal for streaming, gaming, and large downloads
  • Experiences less interference due to more available channels
  • Has a shorter range and reduced effectiveness through solid objects
  • Best suited for modern devices and high-performance networks

We recommend using the 5GHz band whenever possible, especially in environments with newer devices.
