Removing saved networks - Apple macOS (MacBook / iMac)

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for removing (forgetting) saved Wi-Fi networks on Apple macOS. This is a common troubleshooting step if a device is failing to connect to a known network or if the network settings have changed.

Method 1: macOS Ventura, Sonoma, and Sequoia (Modern Interface)

The interface for managing networks changed significantly starting with macOS 13 (Ventura) to align more closely with iOS.

  1. Click the Apple Menu () in the top-left corner of your screen.

  2. Select System Settings...

  3. Click Wi-Fi in the left-hand sidebar.

  4. Scroll down to the bottom of the Wi-Fi settings pane and click the Advanced... button.

  5. Find the Known Networks list. Locate the network you wish to remove.

  6. Click the three-dot icon (...) next to the network name.

  7. Select Remove From List.

  8. Confirm by clicking Remove when prompted.

Method 2: macOS Monterey and Earlier (Legacy Interface)

For users on older hardware or operating systems (macOS 12 and older), follow these steps:

  1. Click the Apple Menu () and select System Preferences...

  2. Click the Network icon.

  3. Select Wi-Fi from the list on the left.

  4. Click the Advanced... button in the bottom-right corner.

  5. Ensure you are on the Wi-Fi tab. You will see a list of "Preferred Networks."

  6. Click on the network name you want to remove to highlight it.

  7. Click the minus (–) button below the list.

  8. Click OK, then click Apply on the main Network screen to save your changes.
